Envisioning Food Security : Novel Cropping Systems & Plant Genetics
First NGP Rao Memorial Lecture and Lifetime Achievement Awards
"The first responsibility of agriculture to development is towards feeding the family and the nation. The green revolution itself favoured irrigated areas while the need for it is greater for people living in tropical rainfed regions, which constitute a much larger chunk. Both at home and abroad they are the most vulnerable areas. The need for agricultural transformation here is urgent and well beyond economics and politics, for it influences the everyday life of millions of people and their daily bread"
